CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — This grant provides renewed multi-year general operating support to Steppenwolf Theatre Company, one of America's leading regional theatres; the recipient of 9 Tony Awards, and the only theatre to be awarded the National Medal of Arts. In its 36-year history, 40 productions have toured nationally and internationally, including Tracy Lett's Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County. Steppenwolf develops and presents challenging plays that nurture the artistic impulses of its 43-member ensemble of actors, directors and writers. Each year it presents 16 plays in 700 performances, reaching a multi-generational audience of nearly 200,000, including free theatre experiences for more than 15,000 youth, teachers, and families.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded Steppenwolf Theatre Company $375,000 between 2010 and 2013.
