NEW YORK, NEW YORK — The Undocumented is a documentary film that examines a little-known consequence of U.S. immigration policy, the death of more than 2,000 illegal border crossers since 1998 in Arizona's Sonora Desert along the U.S.-Mexico border. Shot during Arizona's hot summer months, The Undocumented follows humanitarian groups and Border Patrol agents who try to prevent deaths, medical investigators and the Mexican Consulate who work to identify the bodies of dead border crossers, and Mexican families who struggle to accept the loss of a family member, or continue to search for information about a loved one who remains missing. The Undocumented is directed by Marco Williams and produced by Hiptruth Productions. It will be broadcast on PBS' Independent Lens.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded Hiptruth Productions $200,000 between 2010 and 2013.
