LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — The Shangri-La Dialogue provides an important link in the Asia-Pacific between practitioners of security policy and policy researchers. It is run by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, a leading London-based authority on political-military conflict. The Shangri-La Dialogue remains the main opportunity for Asia-Pacific defense and intelligence officials as well as non-government experts to meet as a group for the purpose of discussing security challenges in the Asia-Pacific and strengthening international cooperation to meet these challenges. This grant would provide support for the June 2012 Shangri-La Dialogue meeting in Singapore. In addition to providing general support for the conference, funds will facilitate participation of younger non-government analysts who might normally find it impossible to participate for financial reasons.
