Arts & Culture in Chicago
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — The Seldoms is a contemporary dance company that presents original dance about the modern world in a multi-disciplinary manner. Its creative process incorporates architects, costume designers, lighting designers, musicians and visual artists. Each original dance piece is based on extensive research into contemporary topics such as consumption and waste, the current economic situation, or the connections between art and science. This grant will support an artistic exchange with Taipei dance company, WCdance, to create and perform two new dance pieces in Chicago and Taipei. MacArthur funds will support travel, lodging, artist fees, and performance space rental for seven of The Seldoms' artists and eight WCdance artists.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded The Seldoms $40,000 between 2010 and 2013.
