CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS — The Union of Concerned Scientists is science-based nonprofit working for a healthy environment and a safer world. It combines independent scientific research and citizen action to develop innovative, practical solutions to pressing problems. Its proposed project, Technical Assessments of Opportunities to Reduce the Risk of Nuclear Terrorism, would conduct two technical assessments to shed light on ways the United States can show international leadership in denying terrorist access to fissile materials. Funds would be used for staff salaries, travel, and publications. The project would promote MacArthur's goals to prevent nuclear terrorism by securing fissile material.

The MacArthur Foundation awarded Union of Concerned Scientists $400,000 between 2010 and 2013.
