CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Luna Negra Dance Theater is a nationally recognized Latino arts organization focused on creating and presenting contemporary dance by Latino artists that celebrates their culture. This grant will support the first year of a planned five-year artistic and community outreach collaboration with the OtraDanza dance company in Alicante, Spain. The goal of this exchange is to establish an ongoing artistic relationship with OtraDanza, learn from its experience in staging dance in community spaces, and incorporate this aesthetic into Luna Negra's work. Luna Negra will also make its European debut and enhance its international profile through this relationship.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded Luna Negra Dance Theater $50,000 between 2010 and 2013.
