SYRACUSE, NEW YORK — As part of the How Housing Matters to Families and Communities research initiative, researchers at the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs will assess how housing affordability affects older Americans' desire to "age in place,"and its role in long-term care decisions, inter-generational transfers of time and money, and shared living arrangements. Researchers will use data from the Health and Retirement Survey to provide a comprehensive view of the role that housing affordability plays in health and other outcomes for seniors that will be particularly useful to policymakers as they address rising Medicare and Medicaid costs.
The MacArthur Foundation awarded Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs $500,000 between 2010 and 2013.
